Our Explorer Extraordinaire Day
Bonjour! We had an incredible day of exploring, learning, creating and playing!
Today's featured Fancy Nancy books were Explorer Extraordinaire, Bonjour Butterfly, and Everyday is Earth Day.
We are such glamorous superstars that first a professional photographer came to take pictures of us early this morning, and then the paparazzi kept following us around to photograph us today.
Can you blame them?
We of course loved it! Whenever they showed up we did what superstars do... We posed and danced so that they could take our pictures!
Ooh la la! We look magnifique!!!
Those are our French words of the day.
Ooh la la means "look how wonderful".
Magnifique is French for "magnificent"!
Once we finally finished our fabulous photo shoots, we read Explorer Extraordinaire. It is a very "scientifically" educational book about insects and nature. Fancy Nancy taught us all about how to create our very own Explorer Club, so that's just what we did.
To have an Explorer Club, we must first do our scientific research.
With Fancy Nancy's help, Ms. Tree taught us all about the butterfly life cycle.
A mommy butterfly
makes an egg.
Out of the egg, hatches a little baby caterpillar!
The baby caterpillar eats...and eats....and eats.
When its tummy is super full, it's time for it to go to sleep.
So the baby caterpillar makes a Chrysilas (Isn't that a fancy word?!!-- "Chrysalis!")
And out of the chrysalis, emerges a BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY!
We used the butterfly (and her life cycle) to learn to observe with a hand lens.
Mrs. Devine's Daily Etiquette Lesson was "nature etiquette".
Soon it was time to go on our big nature hunt to explore the extraordinary world around us! As great explorers do, we came well prepared.
We brought pencils, hand lenses and our explorer notebooks to record illustrations of our observations. (These are several of the big words that we learned today.)
Have you ever seen such a beautiful group of scientific explorers?!!!
We really took time to study the natural world around us.
We discovered that there were amazing things to learn about and observe everywhere we looked!
When we found something that we found interesting, we recorded it into our explorer notebooks by drawing illustrations. Some of us even added labels.
We observed flowers...
We observed ants and worms...
We observed large fish swimming below these beautiful lily pads...
...and we even observed peacocks!
These are the baby peacocks that most recently hatched at Greenhill. They are growing so fast!
Many of us found small treasures along the way to tape or glue into our explorer books.
After our outside exploration adventure was over...we happily returned to our air conditioned room!
Once we were cooled off and cleaned up, we learned today's Favorite Fancy Nancy Words. They were:
Knack
Lavendar
Monogram
Nestle
Ooh la la
Parasol
and
Queen
This afternoon, we read Bonjour Butterfly. Then we compared and contrasted a butterfly vs. a moth. Here is the Venn Diagram that we made to tell how they are alike and different:
Having spent a little time outside today, we got into a discussion about how hot it is outside. We decided that all fancy girls absolutely need something special to help keep them cool. So, for art today we made these fabulous fans!
Now we can stay cool in this intense Texas heat!
Our second art project was inspired by Bonjour Butterfly and the beautiful butterfly flying in our room.
We made these posh little butterflies to hang in our rooms at home.
Here is today's picture video:
It was a "magnifique" day!
Splash Day is Tomorrow!
Thursday will be our splash day. Some of the fun things that we like to do out on our playground for splash day are:
· Run through water sprinklers
· Play at water tables
· Blow bubbles
· Slip and slide in shaving cream
· Splash in baby pools
On Splash Day, your child will need to come to camp with her swim suit on under her clothes. Please send her with the following items on Thursday’s splash day:
· Towel
· Swimsuit (under clothes)
· Sunscreen (applied before camp)
· Large Plastic baggie (for wet swimsuit and towel)
· Panties to put on after we take off our wet swimsuits.
**Please make sure that everything (towels, swimsuits, watershoes, panties, clothes...) is labeled. It helps so much to avoid confusion and items from becoming lost when we are all changing clothes at once!
Question of the Day (Wednesday)
Today we read Fancy Nancy Explorer Extraordinaire and learned all about insects!
What is your favorite insect? Why?

Posh Puppy Day!
Today was Posh Puppy Day!
These adorable puppies all showed up early this morning at Fancy Nancy Camp to patiently await the arrival of our fabulously fancy girls.
Once all of the girls arrived (several bringing special puppies from home), we each chose puppies to spend the day with. Our story of the day today was of course...Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy!
The puppies and girls were all delighted to hear it.
We taught our puppies a bit of French that we learned yesterday, and then were all introduced to two new words- S'il vous plait (please) and De rien (you're welcome).
Our posh (that's a fancy word for fancy) puppies did EVERYTHING with us today.
They ate snack with us...
...and even joined us on the playground where many of us played "puppy hospital".
Our Favorite Fancy Words of the Day today were:
Gorgeous and Glamorous (we couldn't choose just one "G" word)
Hostess
Improvise
and
Joyous
After a bit of vocabulary practice, it was time for art.
In our Morning Art Class we made
POSH PUPPY PALACES! Ooh la la!
The drawbridges really open and close!
Behind each girl's drawbridge door is a real photograph (that's a fancy word for picture) of her and her posh puppy!
After Mrs. Devine's Daily Etiquette Lesson on table manners, we enjoyed our delicious lunches with our posh puppies. Then, the time had finally come... It was time for our
Posh Puppy Fashion Show!!!
We spent quite awhile creating the perfect ensembles for our puppies to wear.
Our creative juices were flowing!
First there was a big photo shoot. The paparazzi photographed each of us with our posh puppy.
In the fashion show, each posh puppy and her fabulous girl were presented.
Our puppies walked, danced, turned...down the runway to music as our audiences applauded and cheered and Ms. Tree described our amazing new looks!
By the time the fashion show was over, we were all quite proud of ourselves and of each other!
Next, it was time to put some of our magnifique designs on paper.
We each chose our favorite breed of puppy
...and then designed a new ensemble for it to wear.
Here two of us are visiting the inspiration table.
Our finished designs were absolutely stunning, darling!
For a final bit of puppy fun, we played a game called...
"Frenchy, frenchy, where's your bone?"
In Frenchy's fun game, one of us hid her bone. The person searching for it had to guess who was hiding it.
Here we are all pretending that we have it!
Oops, she must have looked suspicious:)
Can you find Frenchy's bone in this picture?
After a quick peek into Fancy Nancy's fancy emergency kit, it was time to go home.
Check out this posh mommy in her Spectacular Spectacles!
We even had a real posh puppy show up after most of us had gone to see how our posh puppy day had gone! I think she was quite impressed:)
Here are today's picture videos...
We are all looking forward to tomorrow's Explorer Extraordinaire Day!
